MT.HORNE, St. Andrew – The St. Andrew’s North-west NNP Branch Executive held a successful Barbecue/ sport-o-rama at the Mt. Horne Playing Field yesterday (Sunday December 10,2006).
Despite the heavy rains - which has been falling on and off for some weeks now – many persons turned up at the function to look at the football competition, which was contested among five teams, each team consisting of seven players.
The leader of the New National Party (NNP), Dr. Keith Mitchell, his deputy, Mr. Gregory Bowen, along with other members of the top brass from the party, was at the function. There were also many spectators, who filled the seats of the Mt. Horne Pavilion to look on at the football matches and cheer for their teams, creating a wonderful, fun-filled atmosphere in the process. The scent of barbecued chicken, fish and pork also contributed towards the wonderful experience that many of the persons in attendance claimed they enjoyed.
The curtains came down on the soccer competition around 6:30 pm. The final match was contested between ‘Chang and the Boys’ and Police. In the end, Chang and the Boys defeated the lawmen 2-1. Prizes were handed out to the first and second place teams by Mrs. Delma Thomas.
Already, some of the footballers are calling for a re-match and many of the spectators, from Mt. Horne and neighboring villages, are asking the organizers of the event to not wait for too long before another function of this nature is held.
