SAASS is overall champion in National Science Fair

TELESCOPE, St. Andrew’s – The St. Andrew’s
Anglican Secondary School (SAASS) has
(once again) performed with merit at
the recently concluded National Science Fair.
The school was adjudged the over-all
champion in the Upper Secondary School
division, taking first place in two
categories and third place in four
categories- the best performance by
any school on the island.

At the district level of the competition
(held at SAASS on October 17,2006),
SAASS captured four first places – in
Computer Science, Environmental Science,
Home Economics and Physics – and two
second places – in Agricultural Science and Chemistry. In recognition of this
remarkable accomplishment, the school
collected four 1st place trophies,
4 gold medals, 2 silver medals, 2 plaques
(one for most projects submitted for
a school and the other for the over-all
Upper Secondary School winner. All
six projects were selected to move
on to the next round of competition – the
National round.

4. Scott Matthew (1st) –
Preserving and Developing the
Marquis / Soubise Coastline
(Environmental Science).

5. Jensen Henry and Shannel
Mc Intosh (2nd) – Food Security
(Agricultural Science).

6. Shevon Alexander and Robbie
Reason (2nd) – Making Detergents Using
Local Fruits (Chemistry).


SAASS went on to show the creativity and inventiveness of its students by excelling
at the National round of the competition
which was held at the Grenada Trade
Center on November 9-10. Two projects
entered at the competition got first
places in their respective categories
while the remaining four captured third places.

The St. Andrew’s Anglican Secondary
School – referred to as “The Pride and
Joy of St. Andrew’s” by many – was
pronounced the overall Upper Secondary
School Champion and received a plaque for
Best Projects Submitted in terms of
quality and standard. The school was also
recognized for its continuous and
consistent achievement at the National
Science Fair. The two 1st place projects
were selected for the regional round of the competition coming up sometime next year.

In all, the school collected seven 1st
place trophies, three plaques for merit
and over 15 medals at this year’s
cience fair proving to one and all that
the school has been and will continue
to be an awesome force to be reckoned
with, not only in the field of sports
but also in the realm of academics.
