OFFICIALS IN THE British Virgin Islands have not granted permission to the ‘Dutty Wine’ singer, Tony Matterhon, to put on a stage performance in the BVI.
Matterhon, who is a young Jamaican reggae artiste, is credited with releasing the song and the dangerous ‘Dutty Wine’ dance to go along with it. The movements associated with the dance are alleged to have resulted in the death of a young Jamaican girl sometime this year.
The dance involves aggressively rotating the hip and neck at the same time in opposite directions. Many dance and fitness experts, as well as medical practitioners, have warned people that the dance can result in serious spinal injuries or even death.
The decision of these officials to not grant permission for the show may have been influenced by the advice coming from regional experts coupled with the physiological danger associated with doing the Dutty Wine.
