Grenadians are expected to dig deeper into their pockets during this festive season in order to purchase gas. The increase in the cost of gas was made last week Thursday (December 17) and took effect on Friday December 18, 2009. The change in the cost of fuel is in keeping with the government’s policy of keeping abreast of changes in the price of gas on the world market.
The price of gas at the pumps has moves from EC$11.40 to EC$ 11.98, an increase of 58 cents per gallon. Diesel has moved from $11.01 to $11.71, an increase of 70 cents per gallon. A 20 lb cylinder of cooking gas has moved from $38.50 to $40.73 (an increase of $2.23) while the 100 lb cylinder of cooking gas has moved from $188.01 to $199.15 (an increase of $11.14).
It is important to note that the government did not change the price of gas last month in order to assist persons on the western side of the island who were severely inconvenienced by major repairs carried out on a section of the main road.
