Summary of Position
The research assistant is responsible for assisting Benglas Productions in sourcing secondary data for the purpose of creating a life history of Maurice Bishop. The assistant works under the supervision of the directors of Benglas Productions and must be an independent and responsible individual. In order to provide effective and efficient services it is expected that the individual be flexible in terms of hours of work and maintains confidentiality at all times. The successful applicant will be given the opportunity to become more familiar with the processes of research design and execution.
Major Responsibilities
Sources government documents, books, scholarly articles, newspaper articles and media coverage on the subject of research using research databases, public libraries and government offices etc
Scans, reads and records according to social science research protocol secondary sources retrieved.
develops processes to record relevant secondary sources and is responsible for producing and maintaining up to date records of adequate sources/ compiles processes and analyses data; records research procedures and results; files and maintains records; organizes data for recording
maintain frequent contact with research supervisors with research progress
assists with contacting local primary research subjects
performs other duties as assigned
Skills & Qualifications
Currently enrolled in a post secondary educational institution (2nd yr of TAMCC or 3yr student of St. George’s University)
Background in History (Caribbean) or Sociology
Excellent verbal and written communication skills
Ability to maintain records and familiarity with research design
Ability to conduct internet based and library research
Familiarity with academic referencing an asset (APA or MLA Referencing Guides)
Commitment of 20 hrs per month
Access to internet
Compensation
3- 6 month internship (September 2012 – March 2013)
Stipend of $200 (CAD/mth)
