Special Info  OBITUARY FOR MR. PHILLIP "SNAGG" SMITH ************************************************* Phillip Joseph Smith entered into eternal rest on Tuesday, June 24, 2008 after a long illness. Phillip was the son of the late Idona and Agustine Smith of Concord, St. John’s Grenada, West Indies. Phillip also known as “Snagg” by friends was born on May 1, 1959 in the village of Concord, in the parish of St. John’s on the island of Grenada. He attended the concord Government School. He migrated to the United States in the mid 1980’s while he was still in his very early twenty’s. He was never afraid to venture into new experiences. Phillip became a well-established Artist. His passion was for painting and his closest friends and associates became canvas, paintbrushes, water-colors and oil paints. He painted every conceivable portrait including a self-portrait. He painted numerous pieces while he was confined to hospital and the nursing home. There was an incomplete painting on the easel when he died. He did what he loved best; he painted portraits up to his last days on this earth. He did not only painted beautiful portraits; he wrote poetry and he also dabbled in music. He sang and played the guitar with many small bands in his time. Phillip was very talented. He was in fact the ultimate self-taught artist. Phillip was best known by all for his genuine love and kindness towards people. He would give the shirt off his back to someone he believes they need it more than him. He was caring and shared concern for all his family. He wanted everyone to be happy. Phillip was the kind of man that would take over a persons problem and off them a solution. Phillip loved life and lived independent life until he got ill. In his own words to me a few weeks ago, he said, “boy I lived for two hundred (200) years”. He accepted Christ and became quite a philosopher in his last days. He was not afraid of death and dying. He discussed the topic with me, Martin C., on numerous occasions. Phillip lease to cherish his memory: Two sons, Othney Bailey and Phillip Joseph, Jr. (PJ) and one daughter, Ebony. Four brothers, Martin, Ferdinand, Irwin and David; Two sisters, Mineavia and Sonia. Many aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, cousins and other families and friends including Theresa, Vero and Evelyn. Phillip, you were the best. We will carry your memory in our hearts because you are loved today, you will be loved tomorrow and forever.
